A Transient Hydrostatic Dynamometer for Single Cylinder Engine Research
نویسنده
چکیده
A new high-bandwidth transient dynamometer has been designed and is being built for application to a single-cylinder research engine. The goal of this system is to accurately reproduce all of the dynamic, instantaneous torques that this single-cylinder would experience if it were in a multi-cylinder engine. This is accomplished by calculating these instantaneous torques in real time using a detailed dynamic model of the engine, and applying them by means of a unique high-bandwidth transient dynamometer system. This hardware-in-the-loop system would both extend the operational envelope far beyond what is possible with current hardware, and would now allow the singlecylinder engine to replicate the rapid transients that are experienced in multi-cylinder operation. This may well open up many new areas of research in the transient operational regime, while maintaining the open accessibility and attractive attributes of the singlecylinder engine. Vibration is a key factor of abrasion and destruction in the internal combustion engine. In internal combustion engines, the main causes of vibration is combustion pressure, connecting rod weight, piston weight and inertial forces. This vibration create corrosion and fracture in main part of engine such as crankshaft, camshaft and cylinder block in long time. This corrosion and fracture is effe...
متن کاملTransient Air-to-Fuel Ratio Control of an Spark Ignited Engine Using Linear Quadratic Tracking
Modern spark ignited (SI) internal combustion engines maintain their air-to-fuel ratio (AFR) at a desired level to maximize the three-way catalyst conversion efficiency and durability. However, maintaining the engine AFR during its transient operation is quite challenging due to rapid changes of driver demand or engine throttle. Conventional transient AFR control is based upon the inverse dynam...
متن کاملEmission Reduction Strategies for Small Single Cylinder Diesel Engine Using Valve Timing and Swirl Ratio
Small diesel engines are widely used for commercial vehicle and passenger car applications due to their higher torque requirements, fuel economy, and better thermal efficiency. These engines are exposed to different operating and environmental conditions and hence emissions from these engines are erratic. Strategies are required to enhance performance and reduce engine-out emissions considering...

A computational optimization was performed for a direct-injection diesel engine using three-dimensional modeling. Fully transient CFD analyses of different valve profile strategies for the intake and compression strokes were performed to evaluate the effects on both engine performance and in-cylinder flow-field evolution. The turbulence model was used along with the second order linear upwin...
